The PIV equipment is used to study movements in fluids like water and air without interrupting the movements by measurement equipment. The PIV equipment is especially well suited to study how inlet devices like domestic cold water inlets and thermal stratification devices influence the thermal stratification in hot water tanks.
The PIV measurements give very detailed information on movements in fluid and the detailed information can be compared to CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) calculations and in this way be used to validate CFD models.
